  MISSION IN ALGERIA

"At the request of UNICEF Algeria, my next mission was to Algiers in Algeria. This was especially heart wrenching as the country had been through a 15 year civil war which had left enormous psychological and physical damage, which I noticed as we visited the villages.

Our delegation consisted on Youssouf Oomar, the representative UNICEF Algeria and Mr Aris Salem, the UNICEF representative from the Middle East as this was the area to be focused on. Prince Faycal of Tunisia and I were asked to be spokespeople to highlight the necessity of aid in this country for the children who are ravaged by war and its consequences.

We distributed a range of much needed aids including 50 wheelchairs at a ceremony presided by the Mayor of Algiers to tragic cases of wounded children. Travelling in an armored vehicle with high security personally highlighted the dangers that people there faced on a day-to-day basis.

I was deeply touched by this trip and all the more determined to continue my work with this groups of children in whichever way possible."
